Executive & Anchor Sandra Rupp reports on THE WAY AHEAD ~ for State Street, McCann, Alfa Romeo, Audi, Unilever, WPP CEOs.

Today I’m offering strategic advertising advice to Jay Hooley, CEO of State Street global financial services and Harris Diamond, CEO of McCann, a top ad agency owned by Interpublic. FT Alphaville had an insightful post on that “Fearless Girl” Statue they placed standing in front of the famous Wall Street Bull for International Women’s Day. While I give all CEOs credit for taking on the complex topic of gender parity, in this case the marketing teams tried to tie this publicity stunt to a communications message to influence companies to appoint more women to their boards. I immediately hit the FT comments button, as I was shaken State Street and their ad agency were tying women on boards to a statue of a little girl. Why? Well predictably the press scrutinized the % women in leadership at State Street (reminded me of the Audi Super Bowl ad controversy), and I don’t think any of this helps get more women on boards today: the rest is HERSTORY. Jay and Harris, I invite you to call me for expert advice. Let’s replace the little girl statue with a statue of a businesswoman in high heels with a businessman standing next to her (Yin/Yang). I would love to work with you! The shocking news is the current estimate for overall percentage of Davos Women is only 18%. We really need the 5 Davos Challenge CEOs to be our heroes and work with me on this project. ORIGINAL POST: Just imagine this scenario: a male CMO & male SVP of Brand, a male Chief Creative Officer, and even male Directors of an Ad Agency hatch a plan to have the Ad Team fly to five cities and film women walking into office buildings or malls for a female soap product. But first they plan to put up two huge signs: on top of Door #1 is a sign that says BEAUTIFUL. On top of Door #2 is the sign AVERAGE. And then they film the majority of the women walking through the AVERAGE Door! Wow you can’t even make this stuff up…I really need to help CEO Paul Polman promote the positive self-esteem in his Sustainable Living Plan. As some of you know, I helped him clean up the Axe Ads (see Videos to Paul on YouTube), but now I’d like him to hire me to give Dove a Creative Makeover. As I pointed out in my prior Dove post, Beautiful is a man’s word (click to see more). But there’s more that Unilever’s CEO needs to know: the BuzzFeed Beauty Editor mysteriously had her critical Dove post temporarily deleted – and then restored when BuzzFeed’s Editor-in-Chief admits he blew it after a Slate article. So why did he temporarily delete the post? Last time I checked PR Firm Edelman had been contacted, but there was no comment – Richard & Sir Martin please give me a call. Because I suspect Paul will be siding with me – because top women Execs, Journalists & customers are worn out being told we have to think like men. Calgon take me away ~

Happy Women’s Day. While I know Unilever had good intentions, I am surprised they singled out women in their #SpeakBeautiful campaign (note: Dove has a men’s care line too). As soon as it hit Twitter I tweeted back to PR CEO Richard Edelman on Oscar’s Day “Please tell Paul…They can do better.” In this video I explain to CMO Keith Weed & Dove SVP Stephen Miles why I think it’s time to drop the word “Beauty” from the Dove campaign, revamp it with something fresh & positive, and even use this as an opportunity to hire more Women Executives. As some of you know Paul is one of my five favorite Davos CEOs, and I helped him clean up the Axe & Lynx Ads through my prior videos – I love Clean Cut and Axe Peace But Unilever needs my help again as I read these headlines:
