BOTTOM LINE: I have talked openly about how much I admire Unilever CEO’s Sustainable Living Plan. If I am appointed to his CEO Team, I will have more choices for Dove doors: including Kind-Hearted, Feminine & Fearless. Dear Ad Age & Sir Martin: he needs a female Chief Creative for Dove. ORIGINAL POST: Just imagine this scenario: a male CMO & male SVP of Brand, a male Chief Creative Officer, and even male Directors of an Ad Agency hatch a plan to have the Ad Team fly to five cities and film women walking into office buildings or malls for a female soap product. But first they plan to put up two huge signs: on top of Door #1 is a sign that says BEAUTIFUL. On top of Door #2 is the sign AVERAGE. And then they film the majority of the women walking through the AVERAGE Door! Wow you can’t even make this stuff up…I really need to help CEO Paul Polman promote the positive self-esteem in his Sustainable Living Plan. As some of you know, I helped him clean up the Axe Ads (see Videos to Paul on YouTube), but now I’d like him to hire me to give Dove a Creative Makeover. As I pointed out in my prior Dove post, Beautiful is a man’s word (click to see more). But there’s more that Unilever’s CEO needs to know: the BuzzFeed Beauty Editor mysteriously had her critical Dove post temporarily deleted – and then restored when BuzzFeed’s Editor-in-Chief admits he blew it after a Slate article. So why did he temporarily delete the post? Last time I checked PR Firm Edelman had been contacted, but there was no comment – Richard & Sir Martin please give me a call. Because I suspect Paul will be siding with me – because top women Execs, Journalists & customers are worn out being told we have to think like men. Calgon take me away ~

Happy Women’s Day. While I know Unilever had good intentions, I am surprised they singled out women in their #SpeakBeautiful campaign (note: Dove has a men’s care line too). As soon as it hit Twitter I tweeted back to PR CEO Richard Edelman on Oscar’s Day “Please tell Paul…They can do better.” In this video I explain to CMO Keith Weed & Dove SVP Stephen Miles why I think it’s time to drop the word “Beauty” from the Dove campaign, revamp it with something fresh & positive, and even use this as an opportunity to hire more Women Executives. As some of you know Paul is one of my five favorite Davos CEOs, and I helped him clean up the Axe & Lynx Ads through my prior videos – I love Clean Cut and Axe Peace But Unilever needs my help again as I read these headlines:

ORIGINAL POST: Leaders, I participated in the Mofilm Video Contest for Cannes Lions this year. I submitted videos for three brands. Here I share thoughts on why the Feminine Voice is so important to the Ad & Media industries . I read recently that television viewing can decrease self-esteem in children except for white males via Science Daily. I got to thinking, what if we had stronger Feminine and Diversity Role Models in television programming and in advertising. My father was a pioneer in the Broadcasting business running a company, and one of my first post-MBA jobs years ago was working in Media, so this topic is important to me. I read in Ad Age that just 3% of Creative Directors at Ad Agencies are women, yet women are such a creative group! We have 16% female Board members in the US, so this figure is surprisingly low.  There is even a 3% conference being organized to discuss it (gentlemen, you are invited & to help sponsor it). Did you know up to 85% of the people who make or influence purchasing decisions are the Ladies? I would love to work together with CEOs to get more of a Feminine/Yin Leader Voice in Advertising. Here is an interesting article from Fast Company called “The Case for Girls.” My strong hunch is that we would create a stronger economy and world if everyone had great role models that they could identify with…and yes, you can wear a pretty dress and be a leader! Leaders, I have a request: if you are putting together a panel of speakers, please make sure the panel is as diverse as the audience. Here are more thoughts. I look forward to your thoughts as well.
